Coreopsis pubescens ‘Sunshine Superman’

| DescriptionMasses of bright blooms on very compact, tidy plants just 10 to 12 inches high and a foot wide. Older Coreopsis varieties tend to be more foliage than flower, and can look a bit blousy in the garden at season's end. But 'Sunshine Superman' keeps its neat habit and sets far more flowers than its predecessors, delighting the butterflies and bees. The blooms are single and slightly curved upward, like a plate. The petals at first appear to be quite narrow and plentiful, but a closer look reveals that they are far wider, with evenly-spaced notches that suggest a fine-cut effect. The petals are bright yellow-gold, surrounding a small but prominent orange center.Coreopsis is a native American perennial that finds itself at home in just about any soil and climate. Hardy in temperate and warm climates, it doesn't object to heat, humidity, poor soil, or even drought, though it should be pampered with good food and water the first season to get its root system established. A truly carefree plant, it blooms all summer (and into fall in warmer areas). Unbeatable for mass planting, edging, containers, meadow and cottage gardens. Zoens 6-9." |
