Height: 30" to 36"      3' wide

The flowering stems are exceptionally thick and strong, extending the life of these blooms either on the plant or in the vase (they make wonderful fresh or dried cut flowers). Butterflies and bees adore them all summer, followed by songbirds, which feast on the drying seed-filled cones in autumn.

Description

The flowers are lime-green and daisy-shaped, with a light green cone. Then, as they mature, the petals elongate, revealing a deep maroon base, and the cone transforms itself from green to dark purple.

Plant in well-drained, sun-soaked soil.

This plant reaches 30 to 36 inches high and about 3 feet wide. Like all Echinaceas, it is cut-and-come-again, so deadhead or cut the first blooms promptly for quickest re-bloom. The  Blooming season continues from midsummer through early fall, it has all the hardiness and resistance to heat, humidity, drought, and poor soil that you expect from a native plant.

Needing only good drainage and some pampering the first year to get its root system established. It is hardy from one end of the country to the other.
