Description

The best Hydrangea for nonstop blooms over 3 seasons, terrific mildew resistance, and compact form. Descended from the famous H. 'Penny Mac,' Mini Penny, flowers heavily in late spring and early summer, then repeats all season and into autumn. These mophead blooms are 6 inches wide, rounded, and loosely held, with an old-fashioned cottage garden appeal you will love in garden or vase. The base color is either soft pink or powder blue, depending on soil type, and each petal is washed with white. If vintage colors appeal to you, Mini Penny should become the focal point of your garden. Cold-hardy through zone 5 and successfully pushed into zone 4 with excellent winter protection, Mini Penny is also a fine choice for southern and northwestern climates, where mildew due to excessive rain or humidity is a problem. The small, leathery, dark green leaves on this shrub are virtually mildew-proof, keeping this shrub healthy and vigorous even through the worst summer heat and storms. Very compact at just 3 to 4 feet high and wide. Give it full sun in the north, afternoon shade farther south and southwest, and it will bloom for many years to come, delighting you with its tireless flower power and garden vigor.
