Hydrangea Oakleaf Snow Queen
Click on my picture to purchase me for your garden Categories: Shrub PP#4,458" | DescriptionThis fabulous all-season shrub gets my vote for best of all in American gardens! After all, it grows in any setting from deep shade to full sun, it looks good (and different!) in every season, and it's very resistant to pests, diseases, and rough weather. You just can't beat it for year-round beauty! In spring, the large, dark green, leathery leaves emerge, tough enough to withstand hot sun, strong winds, and heavy rain. In summer, when many shrubs look exhausted, Snow Queen is just beginning its show, sporting imposing, elongated 12- to 15-inch panicles of large, pure white blooms that gracefully mature to pink. In fall, the foliage turns a rich burgundy, and the tan-brown bark, which exfoliates with age, begins developing interesting furrows and patches. In winter, the exposed bark and dried flower heads create a stately silhouette. Compact and very well-branched, Snow Queen reaches 5 to 7 feet with a similar spread in 6 years, maturing to 10 to 12 feet high and wide. It thrives in both deep shade and full sun. Highly pest- and disease-resistant. |
